Our Story
Thank you for checking out my site. I hope to inspire and entertain you with my adventures with Tom, and want to hear all about yours too!
To start from the beginning, I met Tom in Scouts as children. Whether you think that's embarrassing or cute, that's how it happened! Unfortunately, as we were young and moody teenagers, it took us a few years to become good friends.
But, along the way, we developed a sense of adventure and love for the outdoors through the experiences we were lucky enough to have. These included canyoning, caving, hiking, abseiling and rock climbing. We made some lifelong friends and developed some skills that helped us to feel confident and prepared for the outdoors.
Fast forward a few years, and we're both finishing up our degrees. Tom's in mechanical engineering, and mine in psychology. Each year of our studies, we've taken overseas trips on our breaks: Fiji, Southeast Asia, France, Cairns, Singapore, Malaysia... and we find that we like seeing the world via the local bus rather than the fancy hotels.
We like learning a few words in a new language and seeing people light up when you try your best to speak their language.
We like the freedom to wake up without an alarm clock, to be able to say 'yes' to whatever comes along.
As our graduations approach and we discuss our hopes and dreams, we realise that this time, we're planning a much longer trip that the others. A trip that we will be preparing for for almost a year, and that we will leave on a one-way ticket.
So we did!
